BRAZIL FINES CHEVRON $7M OVER OIL SPILL REACTION

Brazil's environmental protection agency has slapped a new fine on Chevron for what it says was the US oil company's poor handling of a spill last month off the coast of Rio de Janeiro.

Chevron was fined 10 million reals ($6,943,351) due to an alleged "breach of its environmental license". It did not have the necessary equipment and was slow to respond when the leak was detected.

7 million U.S. is not enough to deter them from doing the proper maintenance. Besides its factored into the price. Where would the money actually go...not to the people who need the most.

How close are we to being a third world country?

Is it a coincidence that the owners of this oil rig (Transocean) are also the owners of the Deepwater Horizon (Gulf of Mexico oil spill). Starting to look like they are cheaping out on the maintenance...
