In a striking display of honesty, BC’s Minister Rich Coleman has admitted the BC Liberal Government is doing what it was told to do, which apparently isn’t listening to the people. The following quote by Coleman is being repeated in various news articles;
"We continue what we are supposed to do, and that is to install smart meters in British Columbia," he said. "We have already made the investment, we've already passed the legislation in the Clean Energy Act. We have invested [as much as] $400 million so far and a resolution [by the UBCM] is not going to stop us."
This is what they are supposed to do? How is that? Isn’t listening to the concerns of the people what democracy is?
democracy 1570s, from M.Fr. democratie, from M.L. democratia (13c.), from Gk. demokratia, from demos "common people," originally "district" (see demotic), + kratos "rule, strength" (see -cracy). So from the origins of the word we see it is supposed to mean something along the lines of the strength or rule of the common people.
So when the common people attending political gatherings raise concerns and when the municipal elected representatives raise concerns to the Provincial representatives, democracy states they (the common person) should have the power.
"BC Hydro will proceed with its smart meter program regardless of growing municipal government opposition", Energy Minister Rich Coleman said Tuesday.
That is not what Coleman is supposed to do, he is "
supposed to" stop and listen. To continue down some arrogant path of the former Leader of the Liberal Party and do everything American corporations tell him or her what they are supposed to do is nothing even slightly similar to Demo – Cracy.
