The Terrace Pizza Hut Peewee Rep team came away as champions of the northwest zone playdowns held in Kitimat on February 25-27, and will now represent the zone at the Tier 3 BC Provincials held in Campbell River on March 20-25.
Terrace won their first game of the zones 8-4 against the Kitimat team who Terrace hadn't beaten all season. This was a huge game for the Terrace squad, as it really boosted their confidence for the rest of the weekend. Terrace's next game was against Smithers, another team they hadn't beat all season. This was a great battle, and a very entertaining game that ended in a 4-4 tie. Now Terrace just needed a win against the Prince Rupert squad and they would be assured a spot in the final game on Sunday. The game started off very slow for both teams, but once Terrace got their legs going they cruised to a 9-2 victory.
The final game had Terrace up against Kitimat once again. Terrace opened the scoring and held a 1-0 lead late into the first period when Kitimat tied it up with less than two minutes remaining. In the second period Terrace scored 2 quick goals to go up 3-1. Kitimat closed the gap to 3-2 midway through the period, but with 27 seconds left in the second, Terrace restored their two goal lead. Terrace played a very effective neutral zone trap in the third period rarely allowing Kitimat to gain entry into the Terrace zone. Terrace added 2 more goals in the third and won the game 6-2.
Every player on the Terrace squad played better than they had all season. They have really improved as the season has gone along. It won't be easy, but hopefully they continue to play well and finish well at the Provincials.
Have fun
