TERRACE BUS FARE INCREASES JANUARY 1, 2011

Fares for the Terrace Regional Transit System are changing January 1, 2011.

Cash fares will increase 50˘ from $1.50 to $2.00 for adults and from $1.25 to $1.75 for seniors and students (attached, Table A). All other fares will be adjusted accordingly. Children four and under will continue to ride free.

This fare increase will bring Terrace fares in line with those of the Kitimat Transit System and Skeena Regional Transit System. The last fare change in the Terrace Regional Transit System was on April 1, 2007, when the fares were increased 25˘ from $1.25 to $1.50.

Funding for the Terrace Regional Transit System is cost shared between the City of Terrace, the Regional District of Kitimat-Stikine and BC Transit. Decisions on fares, routes and service levels are made by the Terrace City Council.

Well this is just grand ain't it. Just like Linda said the poor get poorer don't they, no help from all this increases to our environment. The majority of the people who live here in the area don't get increases for work or for assistance, so why all the increases to bills and other misc. Just not fair that our children and adults have to pay more. But if it helps them sleep at night then good for them..

I cannot believe the rates now, I always get my daughter the semester pass (4 month pass) it went from $80 per pass to $105 per pass. a $25 INCREASE?? It is the only way for her to get to school without me driving her each day (and was more economical)...I guess the car pooling/bus thing for the environment is going up in flames now, it'll be CHEAPER to drive her now...so screw the environment? Everything is skyrocketing, the poor just keep getting poorer...as long as we are equal to Kitimat??!! Bullcrap and a STUPID excuse...what next...gouge us a little bit more

Please note that while the aforementioned article stipulates that fare decisions are the domain of the City of Terrace. The elected Council made every effort to reduce or defer a fare rate increase in public transit including meeting with BC Transit (BCT) and postponing the signing of our agreement. The resultant increase is largely the result of changes in administration fees and capital replacement policies by BCT.

Of course, this is just my opinion, and not necessarily reflective of the opinion of Terrace City Council.
