Each has its role and provides a particular service, none better than the other, just different, meeting a demand for a different audience. Each serves the communities in their own unique way.
Some sales people wish to degrade one service to attract sales to the other. When we achieved 1 million hits per month in January 2008 some were denigrating the figures stating that hits don’t mean anything. This is true, but the page views and individual internet traffic statistics do mean something. They are a specific manner in which to demonstrate the real numbers of the audience.
Radio, Television and Newspaper cannot provide these numbers. Surveys can be done, which might provide a snapshot, but real hard numbers are only available on the internet services.
To compare numbers we only have Black Press as they decided to enter the internet news world 3 years ago after being primarily a newspaper provider. In the Northwest they own all the newspapers save one, the Prince Rupert Daily News. They own and freely distribute the Standard, The Kitimat Sentinel, the Northern Daily, The Northern Connector and more papers east. They run 75 websites which direct traffic from all over the Province to all of these including their local website here.
So Here Is the Us versus Them ArgumentWe compare the January statistics
Where we show 209,861 page views for January, they show 107,791
Where we show 52,342 website visits for January, they show 34,770
Where we show 15, 679 unique visitors for January, they show 19,897
Reviewing these numbers demonstrates the following:
The Terrace Daily virtually double the Black Press page views
The Terrace Daily visitors stay and look at 4 pages on average
Black Press visitors look at 3 pages on average
The Terrace Daily audience came back about 3 and a half times
Black Press audience came back less than twice.
Black Press audience draws from 75 websites linked around the province.
Terrace Daily audience is primarily Terrace/Thornhill and is only linked in our northwest sites.They may wish to lower their rates and charge less, which they should as their audience is smaller and doesn't return. Our audience keeps coming back and, when new viewers arrive and start reading, they stay.

We do not use this to speak poorly about the service provided by Black Press or any other media outlet; we only use this to accurately provide the customer with the true facts, not a story meant to deceive.
